Confidence At The Counter

Have you ever approached a counter feeling overwhelmed?

Some time ago, while on Pinterest, I came across this quote:

"The best thing to do when you go to a makeup counter is to be armed with what it is that you want to do." - Raychel Wade

Now, you may ask yourself, why is this important?

Let me tell you why.

With there being so many brands and so many products, not all are going to work for you!  With that being said, there are a few things you need to know before going to the makeup counter.

What is your goal?  Why are you there?

The first thing you must remember - beauty consultants and makeup artists are not magicians!

Are you looking for a new foundation?  New lipstick? Eye Makeup?

Before you go, this is when you need to do prior research before going to the counter.

For today, we will talk about foundation.

The key factors you need to know are:
*What is your skin type?
*What type of coverage are you looking for?
*What type of formula do you want?
*Do you have any allergies?

What is your skin type?
You may have noticed when looking around a counter that there are a lot of foundations.  Yes, they are all different!  Some are moisturizing, some have oil control, and some are great for acne prone skin.  Amongst other things.

Before you go, find out which skin type you have:
*Normal - Looks clean and smooth, no traces of oil, supple.
*Dry - Your face will feel flaky, dry, and tight after it has been cleaned.
*Oily - Problematic, looks greasy, shiny, and enlarged pores.
*Combination - You have patches of both dry and oily skin.
*Sensitive - Very dry, tend to feel tight, and becomes inflamed and irritated easily.  Will often be red.

What type of coverage are you looking for?

You might be wondering - what do you mean?

Every foundation has different coverage.

Think of coverage in terms of tights.  How much of the skin do you want to see thru you foundation.
Sheer - you will see the most skin.
Medium - you will see a little skin.
Full - you will see little to no skin.

What type of formula do you want?

Liquid, Cream, or Powder?

I believe that this is more of a personal preference and what type of application do you like best.

Do you have skin allergies?

If so, always let the employee helping you know this!

Based off all of the above, this is how the beauty consultant or makeup artist chooses the best foundation for you.  This is why it's so important to do your research before going to the counter.  You do want to leave with foundation you don't have to return not one you never use, right?

Follow these steps, do your research and you should be fine!

The consultants and artists are there to help.  If you don't know what you want, how will they?

Let me know your thoughts!
